  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups peeled and chopped fresh apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup cold butter
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for the filling)
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve 1½ cups for topping.
  3. Press the remaining mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. For the filling, toss chopped apples with cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and spices in another bowl.
  5. Spread the apple mixture over the baked crust and sprinkle reserved crumbs on top.
  6. Bake for an additional 30–35 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  7. Allow cooling completely before slicing.
