Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for searing)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry, for thickening)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt until just combined. Shape into four patties.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and mushrooms; cook until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce; bring to a simmer and return the patties to the skillet. Cook for about 10 minutes until cooked through.
- Combine cornstarch with water to create a slurry; add it to the gravy to thicken. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Season the gravy with salt and pepper before serving.
