  • Yield: Serves 4

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for searing)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt until just combined. Shape into four patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet.

  4. Stir in beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce; bring to a simmer and return the patties to the skillet. Cook for about 10 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Combine cornstarch with water to create a slurry; add it to the gravy to thicken. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  6. Season the gravy with salt and pepper before serving.
