  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef against the grain into thin strips and prepare the onion and garlic.
  2. In a bowl, mix sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and cornstarch. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok over medium heat and add onions. Cook until caramelized (8–10 minutes) then set aside.
  4. In the same pan, heat another tablespoon of oil on high heat and sear the marinated beef until browned but slightly pink (about 3–4 minutes).
  5. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds before returning the onions to the pan. Drizzle with sesame oil and toss to combine.
  6. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
