Ingredients
- 2 cups milk of choice or canned coconut milk
- 1/4 cup Dutch cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup sweetener (sugar, pure maple syrup, erythritol, or honey)
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- heaping 1/8 tsp salt
- Optional: chocolate chips and pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk, salt, cocoa powder, and sweetener until warm.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup milk and cornstarch until smooth.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the warm milk and bring to a boil while stirring continuously for about 2 minutes.
- Lower the heat and simmer for an additional minute before removing from heat. Stir in optional vanilla extract and chocolate pieces until melted.
- Transfer to a refrigerator-safe container and chill for at least 3 hours or overnight.
