- 1 pound gnocchi (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef and pork mix (or your preference)
- 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes (preferably San Marzano)
- ½ cup red wine (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Finely chop the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté the onion until translucent.
- Add ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned.
- Stir in garlic, carrot, and celery; cook for about five minutes until softened.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and red wine; bring to a simmer and cook uncovered for about twenty minutes.
- Meanwhile, bring a pot of salted water to boil. Cook gnocchi according to package instructions until they float (about two minutes).
- Drain gnocchi and gently fold into the sauce; warm together on low heat for another two minutes.
- Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese on top.
