  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • Optional: 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about ½ inch using a meat mallet.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, apple sauce, onion, sesame oil, ginger, brown sugar, garlic, red pepper flakes (if desired), and sesame seeds.
  3. Reserve ¼ cup of the marinade and pour the remaining over the chicken in a Ziploc bag. Seal and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  4. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill each breast for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, basting with reserved marinade until cooked through.
