  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon fresh thyme)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix panko breadcrumbs with milk and let it soak.
  3. Sauté diced onions in butter until fragrant; add minced garlic and cook briefly.
  4. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, sautéed onions and garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and salt. Mix gently.
  5. Shape into a loaf on the baking sheet and score the top.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes; then add sauce mixture on top and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes until cooked through.
