  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until combined. Press into the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Spread barbecue sauce over the meat mixture and bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, cook elbow macaroni according to package directions; drain well.
  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and whisk in flour; add milk gradually until thickened. Stir in cheese until melted.
  6. Fold cooked macaroni into cheese sauce and spread over the meatloaf layer.
  7. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
