- 1 box German chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- Extra coconut for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until well blended.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool for at least 20 minutes before poking holes with a wooden spoon handle.
- Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cooled cake.
- For frosting, heat evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and butter in a saucepan until thickened; stir in coconut and nuts.
- Spread frosting over the cake once slightly cooled.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
